App Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the mobile apps published by Forge Syntax ("we", "us", "our") handle data. Our Apps are designed to work without requiring you to create an account or provide personal information to us.
Related policies
1. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all mobile applications published by Forge Syntax under our developer accounts on the Apple App Store and Google Play (the "Apps"). It explains what data our Apps do and do not handle.
Our Apps are designed to work without requiring you to create an account or provide personal information to us.
2. We Do Not Collect Personal Data
We do not collect, sell, or share personally identifiable information. Our Apps do not ask for your phone number, contacts, precise location, or other personal identifiers in order to function.
- No account or sign-up is required to use the core features of our Apps.
- We do not maintain user profiles or build advertising identities from your activity.
- We do not sell or rent any data to third parties.
3. On-Device Data Storage
All data our Apps work with — including your settings, preferences, content, notes, and files — is stored locally on your device and stays under your control. We do not have access to this data, and it is not transmitted to our servers.
Removing an App, or using your device or operating system controls, permanently deletes the data associated with it on that device. We are unable to recover deleted App data.
4. Sleep and Health Data
Some of our Apps (such as sleep and dream tracking apps) record sleep-related information you provide or that is captured during use, including:
- Sleep schedules, bedtimes, and wake times you log
- Dream notes and journal entries you write
- Sleep quality ratings and mood scores you submit
This data is stored entirely on your device. We do not transmit, process, or have access to your sleep or health data on our servers. This data is not shared with advertisers or any third party.
Where an App integrates with Apple Health or Google Health Connect, any data written to or read from those platforms is governed by Apple's or Google's respective terms and privacy policies. You can revoke an App's access to Health data at any time from your device settings.
5. Camera and Microphone Access
Camera and scanned images
Some of our Apps (such as Scanly) request access to your device's camera so you can scan codes or capture images. See the Scanly section below for how that app works. In general, the following applies when camera access is used:
- The camera is used only while you are actively scanning or capturing inside the App.
- Camera images are processed on your device, and anything an App saves from them is stored locally on your device.
- We do not upload your scans or images to our servers and we do not share them with advertisers or any third party. They are only shared if you choose to export or share them yourself.
- You can delete your scans at any time from within the App, or by removing the App.
Camera access is required only for scanning features. You can deny or revoke camera permission at any time in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera; Android: Settings → Apps → [App name] → Permissions). Revoking it does not affect features that do not need the camera.
Microphone
Some of our Apps request access to your device's microphone to enable optional features such as sleep sound recording or snore detection. The following applies when microphone access is used:
- Audio is recorded only when you explicitly activate a recording feature within the App.
- Audio processing (such as snore detection) is performed entirely on your device.
- We do not transmit raw audio recordings to our servers or to any third party.
- Audio recordings are stored locally on your device and can be deleted by you at any time from within the App.
Microphone access is entirely optional. You can deny or revoke microphone permission at any time in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone; Android: Settings → Apps → [App name] → Permissions). Revoking microphone access does not affect other App features.
6. In-App Purchases
Some Apps offer in-app purchases, including premium upgrades and subscriptions. All purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or other payment information.
Purchases are tied to your Apple or Google account, so you can restore eligible purchases on your devices through the store's standard restore mechanism. Billing, renewals, and refunds are governed by the policies of the respective app store.
7. Advertising (Google AdMob)
Some Apps are free and supported by advertising. These Apps use Google AdMob, an advertising service provided by Google LLC, to display ads. AdMob mediation may also serve ads from third-party advertising networks such as Unity Ads and others ("ad partners").
Ads are delivered by the Google Mobile Ads SDK and ad partner SDKs built into the App. These SDKs collect and process data directly under their own privacy policies; we do not receive data that identifies you personally, and we do not combine ad data with any other information about you.
Google's use of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Unity's practices are described in the Unity Game Player and App User Privacy Policy. More information about AdMob is available at support.google.com/admob.
8. Data Collected by Ad Partners
To serve, measure, and improve ads and to prevent fraud, Google and our ad partners may collect the following data from Apps that show ads:
- Device and advertising identifiers, such as the Android Advertising ID, App Set ID, Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), and Identifier for Vendors (IDFV).
- IP address, which may be used to estimate your general (not precise) location.
- Device information, such as device model, operating system version, language, screen size, and network type.
- Ad interactions, such as ad impressions, taps, video views, and App launches.
- Diagnostic data, such as crash logs and SDK performance data.
9. Personalized Ads and Your Choices
Ads may be personalized based on your device's advertising identifier and activity, or non-personalized, meaning they are based on general context such as the App and your approximate location rather than your past behavior. Non-personalized ads still use data for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention.
- iOS: Apps ask for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before the IDFA is used for tracking. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: You can delete or reset your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in your device's Settings (usually under Google → Ads or Privacy → Ads).
- Google account: You can manage the ads Google shows you at myadcenter.google.com.
- Remove ads: You can stop all advertising by upgrading to the premium (ad-free) version of an App where offered.
10. Consent and Regional Privacy Rights
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: Before personalized ads are shown, Apps ask for your consent through Google's User Messaging Platform (a consent management platform certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework). You can accept or decline, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the privacy settings option in the App. If you do not consent, you may still see non-personalized or limited ads.
United States: Under some U.S. state privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act), sharing device identifiers with ad partners for personalized advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. You can opt out of personalized advertising using the device settings described above, through the App's privacy settings where offered, or by contacting us.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information. Because we do not hold personal data about you, requests about ad data are best directed to Google or the relevant ad partner, but you are welcome to contact us and we will help where we can.
11. Analytics
We do not use analytics tools to identify you personally. Any analytics that occur are limited to aggregated or anonymized diagnostics. Platform-level crash and performance reporting may also be provided by Apple or Google under their respective terms.
12. Children's Privacy
Our Apps are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Ads in our Apps are not intended to be personalized for children. Where we know or are told that a user is a child, ad requests are configured so that Google and our ad partners treat them as child-directed and do not serve personalized ads.
13. Data Security
We apply reasonable technical measures appropriate to our Apps, including on-device storage for all personal and health data. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of an App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Scanly: QR & Barcode Scanner
Last updated: October 22, 2026
This section applies to the Scanly app (Android package com.forgesyntax.scanly), published by Forge Syntax. It adds to, and where it differs takes priority over, the rest of this App Privacy Policy for Scanly.
What Scanly does with your camera
Scanly asks for camera permission so it can read QR codes and barcodes. The camera image is analysed on your device. Camera images and photos are not stored by Scanly and are not sent to Forge Syntax. If you choose to scan a code from a picture in your gallery, that picture is read on your device in the same way. Scanly does not need your location, contacts, microphone or accounts.
Barcode reading uses Google's ML Kit component provided through Google Play services. Google states that this scanning runs on the device. Google Play services may collect basic technical and performance information about how that component runs, under Google's own privacy policy.
Your scan and creation history
Scanly keeps a history of codes you scan and codes you create, so you can look at them again. This history is stored only on your phone, with up to 500 entries. We cannot see it. You can delete single entries or clear the history inside the app, and uninstalling Scanly removes it. Your light or dark theme choice and whether you have removed ads are also stored only on your phone.
Things that happen only when you tap them
- Open: opens a scanned link, phone number, email address or location in the app on your phone that handles it. Scanly never opens a scanned link by itself.
- Search online / Web search: opens your browser and sends the scanned text or product number to a web search engine, which then handles it under its own privacy policy.
- Copy and Share: copy the text to your clipboard or pass it to the app you pick in your phone's share menu.
- Sharing text to Scanly: when you send text to Scanly from another app, Scanly turns it into a code on your device.
A scanned code can contain anything, including links to unsafe sites. Check a link before you open it.
Ads
Scanly shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner ad and, from time to time, a full-screen ad after you have scanned several codes. To show ads, Google may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address, device and app information and ad interactions, as described in Google's advertising policy. Forge Syntax does not receive your scanned codes or your history through ads.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Scanly asks for your consent through Google's consent message before ads are requested. If you decline, no ads are shown. In some US states you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Where these choices apply, a Privacy settings link appears above the ad so you can change your choice at any time. You can also reset or turn off personalised ads in your Android settings under Google → Ads.
Removing ads (in-app purchase)
"Remove ads" is a one-time purchase handled by Google Play. Forge Syntax does not receive your payment details. Scanly stores on your phone only the fact that you removed ads, and can check it again with Google Play if you tap "Restore purchase" or reinstall the app. When ads have been removed, Scanly stops requesting ads.
Permissions Scanly uses
- Camera: to scan codes.
- Internet and network state: to show ads and to talk to Google Play for purchases.
- Advertising ID: used by Google AdMob for ads, as described above.
- Billing: to offer and restore the "Remove ads" purchase.
Children
Scanly is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13 (or under the age set by local law, such as 16 in parts of the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
